The NORTH WALES & BORDERS Branch is now four years old, all anniversary gifts will be gratefully received?! Our first meeting in January re: the talk on the 'HMS Thetis' was unfortunately cancelled due to the snow and icy weather conditions in these parts, it will hopefully be rescheduled for the Autumn. February speaker was our own Fred Caroe who gave us a super illustrated account of his National Service time in Aden as a medical orderly. Thank heavens we didn't fall ill there at the that time and come under his needle.
Monday 8th March - Speaker: JIM BRADSHAW - 'Mission to Croatia & Romania - followed by Group A.G.M.
Our March Speaker is our own Jim Bradshaw with his experiences with his mission of relief to Croatia & Romania, followed by Branch AGM. Peter Pemberton

Sutton Coldfield, North Midlads.
There was resounding support for the formation of a Sutton Coldfield / North Birmingham Branch , Wednesday being the preferred day with the venue for the next meetings being the The Fox and Dogs PH , left hand side of Mere Green Road having passed Sainsbury's, with a large car park and near a bus stop.

The room is similar to that at the P & H, fairly secluded from other patrons, and of similar size. The meal would be a Carvery - you select from Turkey, Beef & Pork, plus trimmings and vegetables, with a choice from six served puddings. The puddings could be replaced with a starter, but main plus pudding would make it simpler. The cost would be 6 under the banner of the Diamond Club, exclusively for those over 50. (normal cost would be nearer a tenner). This would only leave 5p towards stamps but if we can keep up the surplus from the raffle I see no problem and would leave a reasonable sum for wine at the Christmas occasion.

It would appear that those who attended the 23rd September were very happy with the new venue, especially the food. By agreement I have cancelled the outstanding provisional meetings at the Plough & Harrow. - I have provisionally booked meetings at the Fox & Dogs as follows:

2010: 7 April 12 May 23 June

The venue will open at 11 am for us (normally 12 noon) so it is proposed up 11.30 to for socialising getting drinks if required from the bar, then talk 11.30 and then at about 12.15 commence obtaining food (Carvery - Turkey, Beef or Pork and very good selection of vegetables), staff will take & serve your pudding selection followed by coffee or tea.

Partners are welcome to attend as is the wearing of insignia etc.
If you know of other ex RAF personnel (NS, Regular, WAAF/WRAF, irrespective if they are current members of our association) who might be interested, please pass on the details of this meeting/luncheon and ask them to contact Ron direct.
As it will be essential to let the hostelry have knowledge of numbers/selections Ron asks that you to call him and leave details of your meal requirements and then please send cheque for £6 each made payable to Mr R Read and he will settle total food account.
